Recommend me a series...

So we have a thread that you can post in to talk about movies when you don't want to make a whole new thread. Now we have one for television series! May it reach ten thousand pages.


So I've been watching Mad Men. Most people have probably heard of this because it won a bunch of golden globes and is fairly critically acclaimed. It's about advertising men in the 1960s, their wives, mistresses etc. After two or three episodes I didn't think I would keep watching much further. I was enjoying the advertising meetings (and the excellent 60s fashion!!) but it all felt a bit too soapy. It quickly grew on me and I realised that it is actually a really good look at the "social mores" of the 60s and the soapy stuff plays a really important part in doing that. It's very smart and enjoyable especially once you get to know the characters. Needless to say I got through the two seasons pretty fast and now highly recommend it. Does anyone else watch it?

Well I miss Futurama, of course. Here's hoping it comes back after the last film comes out.

Hey, here's a show that popped into my head recently: G vs. E. Anybody remember that one? It was only on for a season or two. I seem to have vaguely positive memories of it.

Home Movies is the best animated show since Futurama. Or maybe it came out before Futurama.

Point is, Home Movies owns, watch it.

Sons of Anarchy is good. It's about an outlaw biker gang, pretty violent and a lot of fun. It's by Kurt Sutter (The Shield's most sadistic writer/the guy who played the crazy blonde Armenian in season 3) and FX really wants it be their next Shield but it doesn't really come close. Second season starts this year so grab a torrent and catch up!

While we are on FX shows, Damages is an OK. It's really plot-twisty and "oh you didn't think she knew about that but not only did she know but she knew he that knew that she knew." That could be either a good thing or bad thing depending on your taste. If you love convoluted thrillers it should be right up your alley. In the end Glenn Close and Ted Danson really carry it making it quite the enjoyable series.

Just finished the fourth season of Las Vegas. Holy shit, what a finale; the last three episodes were great. Now on to the fifth and final season. I really enjoy this show, mostly for the rather fresh and unconventional setting (a casino), and the chemistry between the characters.

my friend got me watching kenny vs spenny and it has really grown on me.
